My name is Tanha and I’m a Year 13 student at UTC Oxfordshire.

I’m studying physics, maths and chemistry A levels and have an unconditional offer from Oxford Brookes University to study mechanical engineering. I completed my EPQ creating a piece of public artwork.

I came from an all girls school and was aware that when I joined UTC Oxfordshire it would be a very different experience due to the STEM subject choices which traditionally attract a lot more males than females.

I think it’s really important to raise the profile of women in STEM as we need more representation, especially in science and engineering which is still seen by many as a ‘manly’ career choice. That has to change.

My advice to any females looking to become an engineer would be to work hard, sleep a lot (because it’s a long day!) and don’t be afraid to follow your dreams.
