Interactive workshop with Air Products

Last week, year 10 and year 12 students were lucky enough to receive a visit from world-leading Industrial Gases company, Air Products.

Air Products, founded in 1940, has built a reputation for its innovative culture, operational excellence and commitment to safety and the environment. Today, they provide atmospheric and process gases and related equipment to manufacturing markets, including refining and petrochemical, metals, and food and beverage.

The morning started with an introduction from Lynn Willacy, Community & STEM ambassador UK and Ireland, and Gavin Davies, Didcot Faculty Manager. Students were offered an insight into what Air Products do, and some of the innovative solutions that have benefitted the environment, enhanced sustainability and addressed the challenges facing customers, communities and the world today.

The year 10 and year 12 students were then split into groups to begin working on individual and group tasks, with Lynn and Gavin being on-hand to answer any questions. Later in the morning, the groups were then asked to present back their ideas to the team, showcasing their original thinking, innovation and creativity.

With a well-received day by both students and Air Products professionals, Lynn Willacy summed up:

“Students were very enthusiastic. The information being shared is new to them, which is great; it’s an area of industry they won’t have come across yet.

“Next, we’re hoping to show the students our hydrogen car and run one of our liquid nitrogen demonstrations to show them the more practical side of the industrial gas industry.

“This project is about the students showcasing their employability skills. It’s about getting them in front of employers and teaching them what they need to know to work effectively in a business.”

Thank you to Lynn and Gavin for this fantastic session.
