Former student makes waves with analytical apprenticeship

Ex-UTC Oxfordshire student, Jack, started his three-year apprenticeship at Nielsen in September.

Joining as a Level 6 Apprentice, Jack is currently working in the analytics department as a Data Analyst, pulling data for various clients, as well as creating reports and presentations for them on their products. Alongside this, Jack is also doing a degree in Business Management, with the first two years taught at Abingdon and Witney College, and the third at Oxford Brookes.

“So far it’s been really good! Everyone is so friendly and I’ve been able to get straight into the job. It’s even better than I thought it would be. You are given more opportunities and far more responsibility than I had first thought.”

“Whilst I was studying at the UTC, Head of Sixth Form, Sue Lea, talked to me about Nielsen and their career opportunities. I then went away and researched them. It was a good fit as I was studying maths, further maths and physics. So, this kind of role was of interest to me.”

“After applying for the apprenticeship online, I had a video interview with them followed by a group assessment day. I really felt that the UTC helped me prepare for this and Sue in particular was so supportive throughout.”

My advice to anyone thinking about an apprenticeship is to get all the experience you can. For UTC students, take full advantage of the employer-led projects.”

We wish Jack all the best and look forward to hearing how it is all going.
