Is UTC Oxfordshire for you?

At this time of year, we know students are carefully considering their education options for September – and this can be daunting.

There are so many aspects to consider: subject choices, school culture and location – is it the right fit for you?

University Technical Colleges (UTCs) offer a new approach to learning. If you dream of becoming an engineer, scientist, or computer specialist, then a UTC can be the perfect start to your career.

But we really aren’t for everyone. We have a longer school day (typically 08.30am-5pm), we work closely with industry employers on real-life technical projects and our curriculum is oriented towards technical qualifications, as well as traditional GCSEs and A Levels. We are for those students that are keen to work hard, have a drive to succeed in a career in the technical industry and want to take advantage of this competitive edge.

Think you’re up for the challenge?

Here is what our current students had to say about life at a UTC:

“Studying at this UTC has opened my eyes up to what a career in engineering could look like after my studies. It gives you a clear line of sight to your chosen career pathway and prepares you for this early on.

To anyone considering studying here, I would say – take the chance. It isn’t for everyone but for those that want this learning style and career path, it really does give you a head start”. Maisey, Year 10

“At the UTC, you are treated like an adult, meaning you can build better relationships with the teachers and get more out of the learning. It’s a great environment to work in with so many opportunities for life post-studies.”
Rhys, Year 10

“The best thing about UTC Oxfordshire is the links with industry and that the teachers are genuinely interested in your future and are so enthusiastic.

Every Wednesday we do Employer-Led Projects (ELP) and are set challenges by companies such as MINI. This gives you an edge and also creates great links to then be able to go on and do work placements/apprenticeships.”
Lucy, Year 13

“We have incredible industry-standard, modern facilities such as the laser cutters and 3D printers, which give you the skills, preparing you for the world of work.

If you’re considering this UTC, go along to an open event and get a feel for life here.”
Jack, Year 13

Current students’ parents also have their say:

“I felt very unsure that we were doing the right thing sending our son, but he really wanted to go so we didn’t stand in his way and thank god we didn’t. It’s the best thing we have ever done looking back.”

“It’s hard work and long days but [our son] is much happier and his grades have improved too.”

“My son started last September. The best thing we ever did was send him there; he loves it and is getting on so well. He is so happy there. You won’t regret it.”
