Prospective students explore potential pathways at UTC Oxfordshire’s Sixth Form Open Event

UTC Oxfordshire opened its doors to prospective Year 10 and Year 12 students for its Sixth Form Open Event, Careers Fair and Year 10 Information Evening last night.

Local companies and industry partners set up stalls as part of the careers fair to give visitors information about career pathways, apprenticeships and company lifestyle.

Companies in attendance included Stantec, RWE Generation UK, Diamond Light Source, Skanaska, OAS, Activate Learning, Activate Apprenticeships, BMW MINI, Nielsen, Science and Technology Facilities Council, United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, The Engineering Trust, as well as higher education partners Abingdon and Witney College and Oxford Brookes University.

In the welcome talk, visitors heard from all about the Sixth Form experience, including curriculum offerings and life at UTC Oxfordshire, followed by tours of the building.

Departments were open with demonstrations, current student projects and the facilities available. Engineering had demonstrations of current workflows using computer-aided design, Laser cutters and 3D printing. engineering and product design allowed hands-on experiences using lathes and mill machines for prospective students, as well as displaying student projects made using the machines.

Current work on the UK Atomic Energy Authority employer-led project was also on display in which students have been tasked with picking up tiles and orienting them using robotic movers to simulate working conditions in the world’s largest nuclear fusion experiment, JET.

We would like to thank the companies in attendance, staff who made the event possible and hope that visitors found the event informative and valuable.
