Award winning apprentices advise students

This morning (29 June) two members of the UKAEA (CCFE) apprentices team, who recently won the Brathay Apprentice Challenge, spoke to Year 10 and Year 12 students at UTC Oxfordshire.

David Godden and Thomas Cox explained more about working as a team on the DSC_0149challenge. This involved collecting points for activities such as promoting engineering apprenticeships in schools, raising £35,000 for Helen and Douglas House by working with Jack FM, and raising awareness of apprenticeships by engaging with employers and social media.

Dave and Tom also explained the various routes into engineering at UKAEA and explored the advantages of degree sponsored apprenticeships over the alternative route of being a full-time university student.

UTC Oxfordshire students are very familiar with UKAEA apprentices as they have supported us on the Lego Trash Trek Challenge and the employer-led challenges in communications and robotics. There were a number of questions from our sixth form engineering students and we will continue to build on the relationship we have with the UKAEA at Culham via further collaborative projects next year.
