Professional footballer inspires at UTC Oxfordshire

A visit by a professional footballer helped students at UTC Oxfordshire learn how to keep their eye on the ball and overcome setbacks.

On Thursday 23 June, the students were visited by championship footballer Alex Pearce. Alex is an English-born Irish professional footballer of Scottish descent who had a long career at Reading FC before transferring to Derby County.

Alex came to UTC Oxfordshire to speak to the whole school about his image1experiences as a professional footballer and about the people who have inspired him throughout his career, in particular in dealing with setbacks.

Alex used examples draw from other professional footballers to encourage students to see that success is not just down to talent, but hard work and learning how to overcome difficult obstacles.

Students were highly motivated by Alex’s talk and we are very grateful to him for his visit, which ended with a game of keepie uppie as he was challenged by sixth form engineering students Tom Radford, Rob Wakelin and Callum Huntley.
