Charlie Plows, Jaguar Land Rover

Charlie took part in a week’s work experience with Charlie PlowsJaguar Land Rover in June 2016. He chose the company to gain a better understanding of the engineering involved in the automotive industry, as well as have a first-hand experience of design manufacturing. He answered the following questions before completing his placement:

Chosen specialism at UTC Oxfordshire: Engineering

Application process for work experience placement: “An email to a member of the SVO team linked me with the work experience co-ordinator. This was passed to the managing director of the team. A form was forwarded to me and I had to fill out the relevant information. This was fast and straight forward leading to the follow up information.”

What kind of work do you expect to be doing throughout your work experience placement? “Shadowing and possibly hands on experience with each separate sector of the department. Tasks are varied and should involve a member of the team running me through their processes.”

What are you looking forward to most about your work experience? “Getting a better idea of the industry, having a really good experience in one of the motor trade’s most luxury manufacturers, and getting a good idea for careers, especially as the automotive trade is one of my biggest interests.”

Do you feel studying at UTC Oxfordshire has helped you with securing your work experience placement? “I feel like the UTC helped in giving me more of a detailed background in the application process as I had an engineering understanding to improve my application.”

What do you hope to do after you leave UTC Oxfordshire? “An advanced apprenticeship in engineering, or go on to flight school and become an airline pilot.”
