A UTC Oxfordshire graduate has secured an advanced apprenticeship with a pioneering aerospace firm. Ryan Donnelly is starting with global company Airbus in November 2019.
Ryan said: “I found out about the opportunity through the Engineering Trust and they helped me get an interview. Working with large vehicles has always been an interest of mine so when I heard of the airbus placement I wanted it straight away.”
“I feel very honoured to have secured this as there were over a thousand applicants and I was one of four that got a placement. I think the next intake of apprentices is 2022 so it’s a very rare opportunity.”
“The Advanced Apprenticeship has the option to get sponsored at university. It is a five year apprenticeship with all of the practical work being in Oxford Airport and the theory side in Kemble Airfield in the Cotswolds with accommodation provided by Airbus.”
“As well as securing this apprenticeship, I was also offered a place to study at Manchester, Nottingham and Oxford Brookes universities.”
“I joined UTC Oxfordshire in Year 10 in its first year of opening. I wanted to join because it specialised more towards engineering and allowed you to get tasks done during the school day, rather than take it home. ”
“My experience of UTC Oxfordshire has been very good; you get a lot of different opportunities such as the High Sheriff Engineering Award, student of the year awards, and the pink kangaroo maths challenge. There are also close relationships with the employer partners, with numerous chances to speak to them about employability skills and what they look for in interviews and applications.”
“I feel that studying at the UTC has definitely helped me with employability skills and prepared me for the interview stages with employers.”
