UTC Oxfordshire ‘do the double’ at the 2017 High Sheriff Awards for Young Engineers​

Congratulations to UTC Oxfordshire students Emily Thompson, Zoe Townsend, Cailan Grehan and Christopher Gould for their participation in the 2017 High Sheriff Awards for Young Engineers.

Emily and Zoe topped the poll in two out of the three school categories at the awards, which celebrate the achievements of the best and most improved engineering students and apprentices aged 14 to 18 across Oxfordshire.

Students celebrate Women in Engineering Day with Formula One factory tour

12 female UTC Oxfordshire students were delighted to be invited to a full behind-the-scenes tour of a Formula One factory for this year’s International Women in Engineering Day.

On their visit to Williams Advanced Engineering on 23 June, students were able to learn how a Formula One car is built and put together on-site, from the company’s composites department all the way to the race bay where this year’s car is stored between races.

Students inspired by Harwell scientists

As part of the Medical Research Council’s Festival of Science week, our Year 12 Biology and Chemistry students were able to spend two days at Harwell Campus.

Students took part in a variety of practical science activities including extracting DNA from strawberries, crystallising a protein, using Lego to model how x-ray tomography works, and liquid-nitrogen-produced ice cream.

Student creates video of Pi in the Sky project

UTC Oxfordshire student Jack Davies has created a video of our students’ recent “Pi in the Sky” project.

On Tuesday 2 May, engineering and science students at UTC Oxfordshire propelled a Raspberry Pi computer 35km into the air and successfully gathered data from the 30-mile flight. Take a look at Jack’s video account of the experience…

Drop-in advice days – Thursday 24 and Friday 25 August

Come and visit us on Thursday 24 or Friday 25 August any time between 10am and 2pm for the chance to meet a member of staff and discuss your options. Please bring evidence of your GCSE results with you. If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to get in touch.
