Bright futures ahead as UTC Oxfordshire students receive A Level results
Year 13 students at UTC Oxfordshire are celebrating today after receiving their A Level and vocational qualification results, opening doors to an exciting range of destinations.
Students collected their results this morning alongside friends, family and staff, reflecting on hard work, determination and personal growth. The day was filled with celebration as students secured places on university courses, apprenticeship programmes and other post-18 pathways.
The University Technical College (UTC), is a STEM-focused school and sixth form in Didcot, specialising in the sciences and engineering.
This year’s cohort achieved:
A Level:
- 19% of all grades were A* – A
- 42% of all grades were A* – B
Technical subjects:
- 70% of all grades were D*D*D*/DDD in BTEC L3 Extended Diploma in Engineering
- 78% of all grades were D*D*D*/DDD in BTEC L3 Extended Diploma in Business
- 40% of all grades were D*D*D*/DDD in BTEC L3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science
- 86% of all grades were at least a Merit with 43% of students achieving the top grade of D* in all BTEC L3 Qualifications
There was a fantastic atmosphere around the sixth form as students celebrated their achievements and looked ahead to the future. Staff were on hand to share in their success and provide support to those finalising their plans for September.
Headteacher Emma Reynolds said:
“Today’s results are a fantastic achievement for our students and staff and we want to recognise the professionalism, resilience and creativity they have shown throughout their studies.
As a specialist STEM school, we’re proud of the technical and academic pathways we offer through A Levels, BTECs and AAQs. Despite challenges this year, particularly within engineering, students have excelled and are progressing to university, higher apprenticeships, employment or other exciting opportunities. They leave us with the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed in the next stage of their journey.
These outcomes show the power of combining high-quality teaching with meaningful employer engagement, and we welcome the Government’s continued focus on technical education as a route to addressing future skills needs.
We wish them every success in the future and look forward to hearing about all they go on to achieve.”
Top achievers
Several students achieved exceptional results and are now heading off to top universities, including:
- Golan Barnett– A* Maths, A in Physics, Computer science, Chemistry and Further Maths. Gap Year and then St Andrews University for Chemistry/Natural science
- Laura Westen – A* in Maths and Biology. With A’s in Chemistry and Further Maths. Exeter University – Medicine
- Amalia Tarpe – A* in EPQ, A’s in Maths and Product Design. With a B in Physics. York University – Architecture
- Stephan Hood – DDD* in BTEC L3 Business, with a B in Maths. Apprenticeship – Accountancy
- Theo Mutton – DDD* in BTEC L3 Engineering, with a B in Core Maths. Apprenticeship at Thorpe Park
- Isabelle Sibashvili-Marchand, – DDD* in BTEC L3 Engineering, with B’s in Maths and Product Design. Degree Apprenticeship – Lucy Electric with Warwick university
Speaking on results day, Laura, who is heading to university to study Medicine, said:
“I really enjoyed studying at UTC Oxfordshire.
Further Maths is my favourite subject as it challenged me and made me think in different ways.
I am so pleased with my results in Biology, I thought I did not do great, but I am happy with the outcome. Now I cannot wait to enjoy the rest of the summer with my friends! Thank you so much to all teachers for their support throughout the year, I am very grateful for them”.
Amalia, who is going to study Architecture, confessed that she was very nervous about the exams results.
Her mum, who is her biggest support, always encouraged her to be herself and pursue whatever discipline she is interested in.
Amalia joined UTC Oxfordshire in Year 10, and her favourite subjects have always been Maths and Physics.
“I am very pleased about the results. I was so nervous about it! What a relief. I can now focus on the next steps but I will certainly enjoy the rest of the summer and relax now! I would like to thank the teachers and staff who are amazing. I appreciate their hard work”, Amalia said.
