Students look to top destinations after A Level and BTEC success

UTC Oxfordshire look to top destinations following exam success 

UTC Oxfordshire Year 13 students are ready to move on to amazing destinations as they celebrated a milestone today – picking up their A Level and Level 3 technical qualification results.

This year’s leavers from the STEM-specialist school are off to universities including Loughborough, Bristol and Swansea and some incredible apprenticeships at companies including the Navy and Tokamak Energy.

UTC Oxfordshire focuses on engineering and science, and this year’s exam outcomes reflect the hard work, technical talent and ambition of its students.

 A Level

  • 5% of all grades were A*/A
  • 21% of grades were A*-B
  • 37% of grades were A*-C

 Technical

  • 17% of all grades were D*D*D*/DDD in BTEC L3 Extended Diploma in Engineering
  • 52% of all grades were at least a Merit with 20% of students achieving the top grade of DDD in our Applied Science, Business and Engineering courses.
  • 57% of all grades were DM/MM in Engineering

Next steps: Apprenticeships and university  

Many students have successfully secured highly sought-after apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships with leading national employers, including:

  • RAF
  • Tokamak
  • Royal Navy

Other students are celebrating offers from respected universities, including: University of York, University of Wolverhampton and University of Plymouth.

Our students are moving on to outstanding destinations – from leading universities and apprenticeships to exciting careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).”

Notable achievements 

    • James – Has achieved a D*D*D in the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Engineering, as well as an A* in his L3 EPQ. He is heading to Swansea University, where he will study Biomedical Engineering.
    • Loz – Has achieved an A in A level Maths, along with two B’s in Computer Science and Chemistry. They are going to study Chemistry at Loughborough University.
    • Freddy – Has gained DDD in the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Engineering. He is going to Bristol, UWE, to study Mechanical Engineering.
    • Josh – Has achieved a D*D*D in the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Applied Science. They are going into the RAF as an Officer, hopefully to be a weapons technician.
    • Joe – Has gained MMM in the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Engineering. He has a L3 apprenticeship with Tokamak Energy, doing Megatronics.
    • Adam – Has achieved a MP in the BTEC National Diploma in Applied Science. They are going into the RAF as an apprentice, in catering.

Speaking on results day, James, who is heading to study Biomedical engineering, said: “my ultimate career aspiration is biomedical engineering; I am delighted with my grades, especially my A in math which will help me succeed in meeting my aspirations. I would recommend UTC to other students and would like to thank my teachers for teaching me”

Speaking on results day, Charlotte, who got Bs across the board in her subjects of Maths, Physics and Computer Science, said “I am happy with the results I have achieved today and am looking forward to going to the University of York to study Computer Science. This will help me achieve my ultimate career aspiration of being a software engineer.”

Speaking on results day, Josh, who is joining the Navy on an apprenticeship as a weapons technician, said: “my ultimate career aspiration is joining the Navy, so I am happy to be fulfilling this dream. I am proud of my results, especially my D*D*D in Engineering! I would recommend UTC to other students and would like to say a huge thank you for all of the support.”

All Year 13 students have successfully secured their next steps, but UTC Oxfordshire continues to offer individual advice and guidance to anyone reconsidering their options or needing extra support after completing their studies.
